Robert began his professional career with Philip Hobbs as an amateur and then conditional jockey riding around 50 winners. It was here that he met his wife Rosie who was head girl at the Somerset yard.
After his riding career was cut short, Robert took the opportunity to work for Sir Mark Prescott as pupil assistant in Newmarket. After completing his two years at Heath House he then worked for William Haggas as assistant trainer for four years. Robert thoroughly enjoyed his six years in Newmarket and learnt a lot from two of the best trainers and was lucky enough to be involved with some top horses.
After a spell of training and riding point to pointers and pre-training at home, Rosie moved to Newmarket with Robert and worked for William Haggas as a work rider. They both very much enjoyed working for these trainers and gained invaluable experience which they have put into practise in their own yard.
Robert and Rosie started training on Roberts family farm in Penhow, Chepstow. Starting with just three horses they have quickly built up there yard and have trained many winners. They have already trained a listed winner at Cheltenham and a Grade two winner and came very close to a cheltenham festival winner when Modus was second in the champion bumper. With two all weather gallops and grass gallops set in a beautiful location with great access to a lot of tracks Robert, Rosie and the team are always looking to increase the quality and build on the success.
